One of the most interesting spots to observe wildlife is the nesting colony of Eurasian Spoonbills on the way to Haarlem. These birds normally nest on of close to the ground in secluded places. About a decade ago they decided the Heron nests in the trees extremely close to a busy road was good spot to start nesting. They drove of the herons and now each year somewhere in march they start arriving. In full mating plumage as this one is showing. Crest on the head, yellow tip on the bill, yellow-red throat pouch. I am sure I will be visiting the place a couple of times these coming days!

Great shot! I was not familiar with the Eurasian Spoonbill. I love the plumage on their heads.
