Built in 1820, this bridge spans Little Gap Creek on the toll road that stretched from Columbia to Saluda, South Carolina, and was named after the then director of South Carolina's public works, Joel Poinsett; who brought the flower back from Mexico that now bears his name, the poinsettia. The bridge was designed by the same architect who built the Washington Monument.
