The chief Markus Guale of the Korowai clan climbs the ladder to his treehouse nestled into a 40-meter high ironwood tree. Traditionally, the Korowai live in small isolated groups on their own territory passed through the father's side of the family. A typical family house is built about 8 to 12 meters above the ground level, but in certain areas, some of the treehouses can reach up to 45 meters above the forest floor.
