Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Rockwood Park in Midlothian, Virginia.

Time

This was taken in the late afternoon.

Lighting

This photograph made use of natural lighting.

Equipment

I was using my Cannon 60D with an 18-135mm lense. I had an extension tube between the camera and the lense. This photograph was hand held.

Inspiration

My wife is an amature naturalist. She would do a lot of snapshots to identify things. Since I was hiking with her anyway, I decided to use my camera to take things to the next level.

Editing

I did not do a lot in post processing. I always go in and touch the exposure, contrast sliders, I also look at the crop of my photographs while I am post processing.

In my camera bag

I always have my extension tubes, several lenses, my main lens is the 18-135, 75-300mm, and a 50 mm prime lens. I have recently added a 100mm macro lens. I also carry a speedlight, my tripod and extra batteries for everything.

Feedback

The best time to go is during the cooler weather when the insects are around but less active. We also look in transition areas for the best results. By transition areas, I mean areas that are going from a field to the woods, or the edge of a lake or a similar area.
