The Tortise and the Mouse

I think that Jökulsárlón Beach has a curse on me. I've been there twice and both times I've gotten wet. I will admit, I'm a bit of a clutz but I am always careful around the ocean. It seems that this ocean doesn't like me much though. There was this wave, it was an ordinary wave, but maybe that was my fault not giving it it's due as a special wave. I was crouched down behind my tripod, made note that it was acting like a normal wave would - comes in, makes a nice hissing sound over the rocks as it heads out, then finishes retreating. So I started to trip the shutter. All of the sudden it decides to come back up, like a malevolent beast out of science fiction movie. I stood up, grabbed my tripod and stepped back quickly. I swear I saw red eyes and heard it laugh as it pulled my legs out from under me and down I went. My gum boots filled with water, really really cold water went down my coat, down my pants, and my pack (holding the rest of my camera gear) got soaked. I did save the rented Sony from getting wet, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't hallucinating hearing the wave hiss "I'll get your camera next time my pretty one...."
