Location
I took this photo during a shoot at a park outside of Berlin, Germany, well known for its tulips in the spring.Time
The shoot lasted all day, and I would guess this shot was taken towards late afternoon. Probably around 4pm.Lighting
The lighting was just beginning to soften, reducing harsh shadows and allowing me to capture the nostalgic feel of the image.Equipment
I shot with my Nikon D5000 and used a gold reflector to add a touch of soft light to her face.Inspiration
I loved the mood the model exuded in this moment. She was telling a sort of wistful, nostalgic, almost sad sort of story surrounded by a garden all at once colorful and lively, and mystical and moody. Even as the photographer, it all made me want to know what she was thinking. What emotions she was feeling. What had happened to her to create such melancholy. And it made me think how safe she must have felt, the character in this story, in the refuge of her garden.Editing
Yes. First I edited the basics using Lightroom - softened her skin, sharpened her eyes, eyebrows and mouth. And then I moved into photoshop, adding texture and lighting from Jessica Drossin. In my camera bag
Since I travel a lot, I tend to carry my Nikon D5000 with two lenses, an extra SD card, and my reflector kit.Feedback
For me, story makes the image. Every part makes the story, however. The lighting. The location. The expression and body language of the model. When I feel like I am intrigued and want to know more about the tiny slice of story I get to witness in an image, I feel satisfied, because it creates simultaneously a fulfillment in the beauty of the image itself, while at the same time leaving a longing for more.
