Behind The Lens

Location

I was walking around the Botanical Garden in Stellenbosch (South Africa), where these beautiful flowers were floating on the pond.

Time

We had some time to kill, and I took my kids for a walk in the Gardens. It was around noon that I took this picture.

Lighting

Because it was a nice, warm, sunny day, the bees were very active. I know photographers love the lighting of early morning or early evening (golden-hour), but I love warm, sunny days, with lots of light, so this beginner-photographer does not have to struggle with all the different lighting buttons. Just love sunshine and getting used to the wind where we now stay in Langebaan, Western Cape (South Africa).

Equipment

I enjoy my Canon, with 18 - 35mm lens. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I love taking pictures of things, as people can sometimes look fake and posed. The color of the flowers that were floating in the pond were just beautiful and unique and the added bonus was the little bee that came to do his thing.

Editing

I started taking photos in RAW and then tried to do the adjustments and and and, but I realized that I either like a photo, or I don't and by doing all the adjustments, I ended up making the pictures look fake and the colors all distorted. So, I don't do any post-processing, as I first need to do a course on the how-to. I take the picture and share it as is with our Viewbuggers.

In my camera bag

I have my Canon 70D, my smaller Canon lens 18 - 35mm and then I also bought a Tamron lens for the slightly further shots two years ago (just love it). I'm saving for that proper lens that I envy every bird-watcher and professional photographer. I just have soo much more to learn.

Feedback

Take your time and don't be in a hurry to shoot and go. Enjoy your camera and just take it with where-ever you go. You never know when there's an opportunity to capture the beauty of God's planet.
