Location
This is a self portrait that I took in my home studio space. I love using the American flag in my photography when I can. I was just messing around one day trying new things with off camera lighting. In the end, the texture of the flag mixed with the off camera lighting really made me fall in love with the shot and took the image to another level.
Time
On a lazy day decided to mess around in my studio space at home. Spent the afternoon trying different techniques with off camera lighting. No time spent getting creative is wasted time.
Lighting
Instead of shooting with the off camera lighting in front of the flag, I used it behind to the side and that's what really showcased the detail of the texture of the flag beautifully.
Equipment
Canon 50D and one softbox

Inspiration
I live to try new things in my photography. I love thinking outside of the box and trying new techniques. I think the use of off camera lighting can take any photographer's work to the next level. And that's something you'll see in my work a lot.
Editing
Post processing I used Photoshop to give the image a older warn and vintage vibe.
In my camera bag
I'm a Canon Girl. Always have to have my 50mm 1.8 with me!
Feedback
Just be willing to play around with lighting. Whether you are using off camera flash, or natural light from a window, just always be aware of how you are lighting your subject. Portrait photography isn't just about getting the focus and composition right. Lighting is equally as important and you should give it just as much time and attention as the rest. I promise you'll be happy with the work you find yourself creating if you do.
