Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo when I was living in Central California, where I grew up.

Time

I prefer to shoot in the morning. I even named my business Early Morning Light Studio. Plus I was shooting in a downtown area and photographing earlier in the day means less people will be around.

Lighting

I like to shoot in the shadow of trees, buildings, etc. You get a nice diffused light. You have the sky above but not the harsh direct light.

Equipment

I took this a number of years ago but I was probably shooting with a Fuji S3 Pro with a Nikon lens.

Inspiration

I was shooting some product photography for a client and I wanted to show off the handcrafted ring. I thought the beauty and coloring of the model would compliment the ring.

Editing

I normally don't do any editing that I wouldn't be able to do in a traditional dark room. I believe I may have brought the levels up just a bit and added a little contrast.

In my camera bag

Currently I shoot with a Nikon D610 and I always have my Nikon 28-300mm lens. It's almost all purpose. I also keep a Nikon Micro 105mm lens for detailed product shots.

Feedback

Shoot in the shadow of a building w/a nice portrait lens, crop in tight.
