I like these brown toned type of still life. They make me think of the Dutch Masters paintings.

Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this photo on my kitchen table, using things I had laying around as props/background. the books are in a serving tray and on the right side is a baking sheet.

Time

This was one of my late night shots, it was probably 1 or 2am. I decided to get creative with what I had on hand

Lighting

At the time I had limited lighting other than natural light or using light fixtures in my house, since it was late at night and natural light was out of the question, I used the overhead lighting on a ceiling fan and diffused it with some wax paper held up by painters tape and some clamps.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon T7i and the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8.

Inspiration

I was trying to experiment with the items I had on hand to see what I could create with limited options, I wanted to create something with a retro feel.

Editing

my post-processing is always simple, In this case I brought down the highlights and the shadows, added some contrast and dehazing. brought the overall exposure down and added a vignette.

In my camera bag

usually I shoot with Fuji. The X-T4 is my main camera for the ibis and great weather sealing, the 56mm 1.2 is my go to for low light and portrait work. the 35mm f/2 is the other prime I use for street shooting and for it's weather sealing. the 16-80mm f/4 is a must have for general shooting and is great in all weather conditions. and finally the 10-24 is an absolute must have for architecture and shooting in tight spaces

Feedback

look around at what you have on hand and get creative with it, you'd be surprised what you can get with just a few simple items and a bit of work, look for textures on things and plain items that could work as a background.
