Every summer, I try to photograph the Milky Way. Every summer I'm going to edit a photo of the Milky Way. My team is not the best for this type of photography, but only the fact of the preparation, the silence, the wait, makes every year keep trying for some good shot.
"Borda" this is the name of the houses where tools are kept in the Aragonese Pyrenees
The lighting is made with a hand torch.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo is taken in a Borda, a rigging house in the countryside, typical of Huesca, near Puyarruego. Puyarruego, is a town in the municipality of Puértolas, in the central area of ??the Sobrarbe region, in Huesca. Pyrenees area.

Time

The photo was taken at 23:49 on August 12, 2017. A warm night, which little by little became cold, despite being in the month of August.

Lighting

Lighting is very simple. We made several test shots trying to illuminate with flashes, but in the end, we decided to paint the facade with a small, adjustable LED flashlight.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D750, with a Nikkor 24mm 1: 2.8 D AF lens, a Manfrotto 190 XB and the DayrON small battery-powered flashlight. Iso 1600, f2.8, 25s, 24mm.

Inspiration

When we go on vacation, we like to do a night out in an area with little traffic and little light pollution. We always look for some half-demolished house for it. In the afternoon we located this little house, and we waited for it to be dark at night to try to capture the Milky Way above it. It was the night of the Perseids, but we were not lucky enough to be able to hunt them down.

Editing

The photo is processed in Lightroom and PS. It is a single Raw. The editing I did is pretty straightforward, and I just changed the WB a little bit, and zoned the part of the house. Some medium contrast, a little focus and noise reduction. Normally, I resize with PS.

In my camera bag

Normally I have the 24mm, and a couple of old lenses. One AF Nikkor 35-70mm 1: 3.3-4.5, and one AF Nikkor 70-210mm 1: 4-5.6. Except for other types of photographs, it is what I find most comfortable.

Feedback

Well, what I can tell you is that you enjoy what you have in mind, with what you have in your backpack. We do not take photography to suffer but to enjoy, right ?. I really like the preparations for these photos. Searching the site exploring the area is usually very fun, and the reality is that you do not know if at dusk, you can get what you have proposed, but far from discouraging, all I do is take advantage of that moment, and try to search better next time. You have to take many photos, practice, practice, practice. That is something we all know. So, I encourage you to try again and again, until you are satisfied with your result.
