You have given such a masterpiece to the contest and the glow and light at the edges of the lion is what I love ...the contrasting exposure in the foreground to that of the background is sooooo goooddd ...keep up the good work

Behind The Lens

Location

The Photo was taken at the Toronto Zoo

Time

It was a rainy afternoon, around 3pm

Lighting

I love shooting in the rain. I love the mood the lighting creates. In this case I was lucky to have the sun break through just as I was preparing to shoot. The lion was looking off in the direction of the sun and the resulting lighting created an interesting play of light and shadow

Equipment

My Trusty Nikon D700. From memory I was using my 70-300 Zoom. That was all

Inspiration

View Bug. I love being inspired by other photographers work and trying to incorporate their ideas into my own work. In this case I wanted to capture the lion looking off at something out of shot. I purposefully had the lion to the left of the picture with plenty of area to the right for the eyes to wander off with the lion. I was happy with the result

Editing

My post processing skills are still rather rudimentary so I try to limit it, but there was some colour correction and I added a blur to the back ground.

In my camera bag

My D700, D3300, 18-55 Kit lens, 70-300 zoom, 18-35 Macro, and 24-105 zoom. I also Carry I tripod, monopod, a set of ND filters and a speed light.

Feedback

Have a plan for what you want to capture then be prepared to capture what ever the shoot has to offer. What your hoping for doesn't always work out, especially when dealing with wild life. Take lots of shots. I took about 100 shots of this subject. This was the only shot I used.
