York Harbor, Maine
Yesterday was a long day where I spent 5 hours in the car and another 6 hours shooting with my buddy Corey Cain of Corey Cain Photography. Last night I wanted to sleep so I slammed down a capsule with 600mg of THC in it and prepared for calgon, or at least cannabis, to take me away.
Fastforward to this morning. I normally wake up between 3 and 4am but today I slept in until 6. I was in the shower when Bear poked her head in and told me it was foggy with some interesting color on the horizon and that I should get my big ass motivated and out shooting. Reluctantly, I heeded her advice.
The color was already building on the horizon by the time I shot down the back roads towards Hancock Wharf and when I rolled in to my normal shooting spot and scoped out the Katlyn Croix I found myself slightly disappointed so I hopped back in the car. We crossed the bridge and as I looked over my shoulder the coolest purples and blues were begging to flood the horizon. Immediately I had Bear drop me off and I scrambled and slid down a loose rock embankment and began to stubbornly slog through thick salt flat mud. I could see the color just beginning to pour out of gaps in the clouds above as I frantically tried to fight the mud as it persistently tried to strip me of my well-tied boots.
In the distance a duck flushed off the placid water and began to fly towards me. I knew my moment was approaching as I hurried into position, checked my settings and let the shutter swing. As it clapped shut and flashed quickly on the back of the screen a wicked cackle erupted from deep inside of me. Its that involuntary response when I know I'm going to enjoy the frame I just captured.
I'm deeply pleased with this shot. It was entirely worth filling my boots with 40degree mud and water. I would do it ten more times if I had to just to get this frame once.
I hope you enjoy too!
