Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was captured at Ultra4 King of the Hammers 2018 Unlimited Class Race in Johnson Valley, California.

Time

This was taken at 5:30pm, it was February, the sun was still setting fairly early.

Lighting

I was standing so the sun setting just to the left of the frame gave the perfect golden light to accent the dust coming off the tires.

Equipment

This photo was captured with a Nikon d7000, Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-3.6, no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I take photos of my son racing his Jeep in the 4600 class, we had walked over to the race track to watch the unlimited class race. I wanted to get some extra practice with my panning on action shots.

Editing

I did do some post-processing in adobe Lightroom, I brought up the clarity and shadows a bit to bring out the color of the car, other than that I didn't do anything else to the image.

In my camera bag

My bag is pretty basic, Nikon d7000, Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 lens, 50mm prime lens, and a tripod.

Feedback

Action shots I think take practice, the first race I went to I shot 20,000 photos, I think maybe 10 were good. Panning takes practice. I am still learning, that is the good news. My best advice, just get out there and shoot as often as you can, whatever you can.
