Location
During our stay in Death Valley, we wanted to Visit the Racetrack Playa. Unfortunately I got sick and had to rest one day in bed. As this was at the first part of our 3 Weeks trip, we moved on after my "recovery" because we had so many other places we wanted to see and time is always tight;) Long story short, we came back!! And we made those 28 miles on the unpaved road with our rental car, without any damages and saved the 300 bugs for the rental Jeep. And boy I fell in love with this place.Time
We spend the whole night up there! It was magical!!Lighting
We arrived just during sunset, then we had about an hour the show of the Milky Way before the Moon rose.Equipment
Camera was the Sony A7RII with the Samyang 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC on the Sirui Tripod T-1205xInspiration
I always wanted to make some cool Milky way shots. And the Racetrack Playa is perfect for some astro photography. Back in 2014 I visited death valley for the first time. But back then I haven't yet started with photography. A friend of mine had his DSLR with him. It never catched my attention until he captured the milky way. I was blown away!Editing
Of course, a lot. It's a manually blended Pano of 2 horizontal images. The foreground is an exposure of 202 Seconds at ISO 200 and... I guess f/8 can't see it as it is a fully manual Lens. For the MW, 21 x 21 seconds @ ISO 6400 & f/2.8 Stacked in StarryLandscapeStacker. After putting everything together I just used some NIK filters and ajusted this and that.In my camera bag
The Sony A7RII with the Zeiss 16-35mm f/4 , the Sony A6000 with the 70-200 f/4 mounted. For nightshots I just switched my Samyang 14mm with the LAOWA 15mm f/2 Zero D - an Amazing Lens! And there is also the Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 in my bag.Feedback
Please be respectful with the Racetrack Playa! Don't move Rocks or leave rubbish up there. And Drive nice and easy. You will need 4x4 and a good ground clearance.
