Although the Kilimanjaro in the background is a typical view of the park to get the warmth of the morning sun as well as the light on the top of the Kili was not easy as its snowcap would reflect the sun and makes the light balance difficult to arrange.Equipment
This was shot on my Nikon D3s with a 70-200 Nikon lens on a monopod.Inspiration
This was one shot so typical of the region that I wanted to take with the Kili in the background and wildlife roaming free in the foreground. That particular morning, these elephants coming back from the mountain side and going to the waterholes where in perfect situation to take this iconic shot. The Impala looking at them pass by adds a twist to it.Editing
I always minimize the post processing, part of it because I like to be able to take the photo and show it as is and to be honest part of it because I am not very knowledgeable/interested in extensive post production. Basic contrast and saturation adjustment with some sharpening was applied.In my camera bag
A Nikon D3s for wildlife and action shots with a 70-200mm f2.8 Nikkor or a (new) 500mm f4 tele. I used to use a Tamron 150-600mm but found it too slow in some cases; a Nikon D800 for landscapes and macro with a 100mm macro and a 28-35mm f4 for landscapes.Feedback
You have to know or "see" the photo you want to take beforehand; then patience to get the right composition and light conditions.
