This photo was taken on our beautiful farm in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.Time
I captured this sweet moment on September 1, 2017. I go outside every evening to watch the hummingbirds. I usually bring along my camera to take pictures of them as they come to the feeder. I sat down on the patio behind a huge door (7 months pregnant!) so that I wasn't seen and I just waited. Not long after I sat down, our gentle giant, champ, blew my cover and came to sit down across from me, just to be near. After about 15 minutes of waiting, out of the corner of my eye I see this little blob moving across the patio. I had my camera up and ready for the hummingbirds, and because of that, I was able to capture one of the sweetest photos. You see, Champ would never hurt a fly. He is curious, patient, and loves being outside. Capturing this image, captured every bit of his personality. He didn't move a muscle when the beetle came near. He simply observed it as it came up to him.Lighting
I am a self taught photographer and LOVE natural lighting. This image is natural to the core!Equipment
I used a NIKON D3400 with a 70-300mm lens. No flash.Inspiration
Nature itself is always an inspiration to me. I rarely take photos of anything else. I set out to capture one of the most fascinating species of bird, and I came back with a photo of my own loyal companion, and it captured my heart.Editing
No post-processing.In my camera bag
I always have my 18-55mm and my 70-300mm lens, my battery charger, an extra memory card, my bird field guide, and a granola bar!Feedback
If you love capturing wildlife, be patient and consistent. Be willing to go out 100 times before you capture one good shot. Wildlife is spontaneous! You can never make plans or predict what will happen. You simply have to be at the right place at the right time. But that truly is why it is so fun! The thrill of the unknown and adventure!
