Behind The Lens

Location

I was walking around the yard taking snapshots of flowers and this is one of the results. Honestly no set up, just walked up snapped the photo, and went to the next flower.

Time

This was during the evening in the summer around 7:00 pm, I looked across the yard and seen the vibrant yellow contrasting against the green backdrop and thought it would make a good picture.

Lighting

Nothing special, just the golden hour for that day.

Equipment

This was taken with a Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone in 2014. I do own a Nikon DSLR but tend to take a lot of "cell phone" pictures as well. No tripod, no flash, I just pointed and took the picture.

Inspiration

My mother-in-law has a great knack for growing flowers and asks me to take pictures of them. After talking about it for years I finally gave her a book of the pictures of flowers that I had taken over the years, this was the cover photo, she absolutely loved it. I always encourage people to print their work, I think you have more of an appreciation for what you do when a photo comes to life in a frame on the wall.

Editing

This is straight out of the camera or in this case the phone.

In my camera bag

I always have my Nikon with me but tend to do more phone photos. I am an amateur at best but just love to take pictures. It is mainly a hobby that I just love to do.

Feedback

Just pay attention around you, as lighting changes during the day a shot that looks okay now could be a great shot 10 minutes later. I am definitely not a professional but most of my good shots happen when I just don't "try too hard" Just enjoy it, and the good shots will come.
