This photo is of the fishing pier on Pensacola Beach, Florida.Time
This image was taken in the early morning hours. Due to the presence of beach combers I used a 10 stop ND filter to further lengthen the exposure thus removing them from the scene.Lighting
The only trick with lighting was facing west catching the early light cast on the pier from the rising sunlight and adding an ND filter as aboveEquipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D800 ISO200 73 sec at f/11 using a Nikon f/2.8 14-24mm at 14mm. I also used a Gitzo tripod with a Wimberly gimbal headInspiration
I grew up as a kid fishing on this pier. I have spent my life on , in or under the water. I gravitate to similar subjects to photograph,Editing
The only post processing was in Lightroom to convert the file into black and white and to remove the hot pixels due to the long exposure.In my camera bag
I usually carry just the bare minimum. A Nikon D850 attached to a Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 and another D850 attached to a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8. I try to always have these with me. You never know when that next once in a lifetime photo opportunity will appear.Feedback
In capturing these types of images I recommend that you go early or late with plenty of time to set up your composition. Utilize ND filters as needed. Always have your horizon level. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. I can not tell you how many wonderful shots I see that are spoiled by not doing this. I also recommend that you bracket your exposure.
