Location
I took this photo as Jordon Lake, NC. I had never been this far down the lake before as it is usually covered in water and so when the lake was low on water I took the opportunity to shoot land that is usually not capturable.Time
This was one of my first images from that location; it was around 6 pm on a cold winters day. I remember struggling to get a shot that was not blurry due to my dog pulling me away from the tree! I eventually managed to take this shot by balancing the camera on the tree trunk.Lighting
A lot of the lighting was fixed in Lightroom, I was also lucky that there were no heavy shadows when I took this picture.Equipment
This was shot with my Nikon D7200, 18-400mm Tamron lens.Inspiration
My inspiration was exploring the unknown, I had never been to this particular place at the lake before and as soon as I saw this tree, I knew I had to get some photos.Editing
Yes, as you may be able to tell, this is a composite photo. I have a style of creating images that are like fairy tales and so adding this sky to the tree just made it look magical and otherworldly. In my camera bag
I try to carry as little as I can, I have a tripod, a monopod, 35mm lens, macro lens kit, 18-400mm Tamron lens, a few filters and my camera Nikon D7200.Feedback
All I can say is if you want to create composites, you will need to practice a lot. You don't need photoshop; other programs can do the same job for a lot less. Try to match the background lighting with the foreground shadows and lighting, there have been a few times where I got this wrong, but you learn from past mistakes.
