Location
This photo was taken on the outskirts of the city in which I live. I had just come over a small rise when I saw the sun coming up and decide to stop and get a shot..I have always been captivated by the sun's light both sunrise and sunset and the differences and difficulty's that exist between the two. Also due to the fact that I live near the eastern slopes of the Rockies I can get both prairie as well as mountain landscape shots not that far out of town.Time
Due to the fact that I live in the Northern Hemisphere during the winter the sun gets up later in the day so this wasn't as early in the morning as some shots. This was taken January19, 2018 at 8:32 AM.Lighting
The lighting was very bright so I had tried some different shots with different ISO's, f stops, etc but none seemed to be working. As this was a new camera I was trying different settings like filters, Etc when I noticed a setting called "HDR BOLD" which I decided to try also. The finished product was very close to what was shot.Equipment
I use a Canon 77D with an 18-135mm f3.5 lens. No other equipment. was used.Inspiration
I was looking for some winter prairie and farm shots when I came over a small hill and the sun had just come up over the horizon. The colours seemed to be absolutely gorgeous so I had to stop to try and get the shot.Editing
A lot of time when you do winter scenes the snow blow everything out, I was lucky on the time of day as the sun hadn't gotten up too high in the sky to blow it out. All I did with this was drop the exposure by .50 of a stop. I also took a bit of haze out with the dehasing tool as well I also used just a little bit of the clarity slider. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon 77D with a Tameron 18-400mm f3.5 lens which is my work house. I also have a Canon 18-135mm f3.5 lens which is the one I was using that day. I also have different filters like a polarizing filter as well as a #8 ND and a Haida night pollution lens which is absolutely wonderful in cutting down light pollution. In my car I also keep my tripods in case I need them right away.Feedback
A photographer once told me that landscape as well as wildlife photography is like fishing. You go out and set up for your shot and them you have to just wait usually very quietly to get something.A lot of time you will get nothing, nada, zip, zilch, but when you hit that one that is very, very good then you are hooked for the rest of your life. You have to develop your patience so that you can get the shot, it's not going to jump up and let you get it on your first try.
