Location
The photo was taken on the top of Qoba Qaya mountain in Crimea.Time
It was a golden hour period, just before the sunset. There was no wind at all though this spot is about 150 m above the sea level. An absolute serenity.Lighting
To my mind, the light captured on this photo is one of the most beautiful types of natural light - sun rays touch the objects in a very sharp angle that leads to emphasizing all textures. You just need to choose the foreshortening and make a good composition. The rest will be done by light.Equipment
The photo was taken by Canon 5D Mark II with Canon EF 17-40/f4 L USM lens with the help of the Slik 340DX Pro tripod.Inspiration
I love trees at all. Especially specimens like this one - old, crooked, twisted, and standing alone. I knew about this tree, therefore, I planned that shooting and climbed to the mountain just when the suitable weather happened. So, I can say that I was inspired by nature: tree, light, and weather.Editing
Of course, the photo was processed. I turned it into black and white and then made some extra adjustments like increasing contrast, adding sharpness, and so on, nothing special. In my camera bag
On that trip, I had only the mentioned equipment, nothing else. But now, my usual set including Canon 5D Mark II camera, Canon 24-105/f4 L IS USM and Canon EF 16-35/f4 L IS USM lenses, Kenko Slim Circular-Polarized filter, Slik 340DX Pro tripod, and Pixel Pro shutter remote (this remote control also allows me to make an interval shooting for timelapse).Feedback
The only advice is you should catch the best light. Watch the weather to predict the light in the preselected place, and when the conditions are good, go there in advance in order to get to the spot at least half an hour before the best moment. In this way, you will have time to prepare, to choose the best object and composition. So, when the moment will come, you'll be ready to take a great capture.
