Behind The Lens

Location
This photo of a friend ice skating in Rocky Mountain National Park was captured on Chasm Lake, below the tallest peak in the park, 14,259? Longs Peak.
Time
A group of us originally hiked up to the lake to capture a cloud filled sunrise, but the clouds were a little late, so we took photos of ice skating at sunrise instead.
Lighting
The warm sunrise glow on Longs Peak towering over 2000 ft above contrasted beautifully with the deep blues of Chasm Lake.
Equipment
I used a Sony a7RII with Sony FE 16-35mm f/4 lens.
Inspiration
Lisa Bao, the skater in the photo, was on a week-long winter photography trip through the West and wanted to ice skate a mountain lake.
Editing
The natural light in this image was so great it didn't need much editing.
In my camera bag
It really varies based on the type of trip but I always at least have a camera with me: I've created work with iPhones, GoPros, Drones, and Sony cameras. For winter mountain adventures I usually have my Sony A7RII and a couple FE lenses.
Feedback
Go to bed early! Getting here for sunrise meant a 1:30 am wakeup to be at the TH by 4 am and at the lake by 7 am.
