Location
This photo was taken in my back garden on a Borage flower. These flowers seem to be very attractive to the native Blue Banded bee.Time
The bees seem to be around most of the day if the sun is out. I find the best time is before lunch when the sun isn't so harsh or late afternoon. This one was taken about 9am before the wind picked up.Lighting
There was shade cloth behind the flowers a distance away which gave the non distracting background and colour. There was enough light not to need a flash.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 camera with a 200mm macro Nikon lens mounted on a tripod. No flash was used.Inspiration
I absolutely love insects. They seem to have personality if you can get a good angle. These little cuties are so quick the best time is when they stop on a flower. Seeing them on the flower was such a lovely combination I couldn't pass up the opportunity.Editing
I did take out dust specs, but no other touch ups.In my camera bag
As I love insects I tend to have my Nikon D7000, my 200mm macro lens and a 60mm macro lens I take everywhere. I also take my tripod, a small bean bag and a kneeling pad.Feedback
The best tip I can give for macro photography is just be patient. I take hundreds of pictures of the same bug if possible. Go out in the back garden - you will be surprised what you find. Sit still and wait.
