Behind The Lens

Location
This beautiful Brown Bear was photographed in Katmai Alaska at Brooks Falls. Pretty amazing watching these huge bears fishing both on top of and below the falls. Each bear seemed to have a favorite spot and technique for successfully catching their fish. This brown beauty was very successful at catching fish, some others not so much. But they are tenacious and eventually they all seemed to catch their share.
Time
This was photographed mid morning near the lower portion of the falls. A very large male bear approached the falls from the opposite side of the river walked across the top of the falls and all the bears scattered, but as he wandered up stream the rest of the bears returned to fish.
Lighting
Unfortunately the lighting was just what was available from the secure area for photographing the bears, as the bears were wander all over the area.
Equipment
This was shot with the Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon 100-400 mm lens with a Manfrotto tripod.
Inspiration
Living in the Pacific Northwest has afforded me the opportunity to photograph amazing wildlife. My trip to Alaska was specifically for the Brown Bears and I was excited to see these impressive bears up close and personal.
Editing
I usually do post In Photoshop...
In my camera bag
My current camera bag has a Canon 1DX Mark II and a Canon 5D Mark III. My Lenses are the Canon 500 mm II, Canon 100-400 mm II, using the Canon 1.4x III or the 2x III for my wildlife photography. I have other Canon lenses for other types of photography.
Feedback
Planning the right time of year with a dose of good luck for the weather is the key to visiting Alaska
