You won't believe it but this photo was actually taken in the bedroom while the model sat on the bed! To this day it's my favorite memory because the model thought I was crazy and didn't understand the vision I had. We laughed non stop.Time
I shot this image at almost nine in the morning. On the right side of the image is a small east facing window which was the only source of light.Lighting
I had an image in my head that was dark with very little of the subject being lit. I knew I wanted the focus to be on the water. The magic of the shot was a plexiglass sheet that I sprayed water on. Using any kind of flash would have made annoying reflections so I choose to use only the window to the right adjusting the curtains with each shot until I was happy.Equipment
The shot was taken with the Nikon D 600 and the amazing and very cheap 50mm F1.8 on a tripod. Shooting in manual I had the aperture at F2.8, exposure 1/100 of a sec and ISO 800. The magic was using a clear 4ft by 6ft plexiglass sheet which I wedged between a stack of books to make it stand and used a spray bottle of water to make the effect of rain.Inspiration
Laughing. I had seen a photo of a woman shot through a window in the rain and I thought it was very cool. Unfortunately it was the dry season with no rain in sight. Not to be beaten I came up with the idea to create the effect of rain using the plexiglass sheet and a spray bottle of water. I like to look at the work of others and then instead of trying to copy it I try to give it my twist. I generally don't like nudes. I prefer the idea of creating a sensual mystery, seducing the viewer with just enough to wonder what's behind the curtain. I find that beautiful.Editing
In all honestly photoshop baffles me. I use Lightroom for all processing of my RAW images. In this case it was simply adjusting the shadows to create the desired effect. In my camera bag
Well recently I've switch to the X series of Fuji cameras. Currently in my bag are the XT2 and an XT3. I've always only loved primes. I carry a 35mm F1.4, the 90 F2 and the 16mm 1.4. I carry 2 Godox V860 flashes as well. All that fits in a small shoulder bag I never leave home without. With my Nikon gear I felt like I needed a Uhaul truck but I've simply fallen in love with the Fuji.Feedback
Well if you have real rain use it. The idea of the plexiglass is a good one because it allows you to move it wherever you need to get the best natural light.
