Part of my journey was to become comfortable with my body and all of it’s parts. So I decided, since they draw so much attention both positive and negative, my breasts deserve their own portrait.

Location
I took this in my bedroom which has great natural light.Time
This was a very personal shot for me. I was laying on my bed having a bit of a siesta enjoying a relaxing afternoon which I don’t get very often. I was thinking about my journey and reflecting on how my confidence has significantly grown. It comes from within, but I let my body rule my thoughts for so long.Lighting
I wanted to use natural light to enhance the real feel of the photo. The sunlight flooding through my bedroom was perfect.Equipment
This was shot with my iPhone 6s with no flash.Inspiration
I was thinking about my journey and reflecting on how my confidence has significantly grown. It comes from within, but I let my body rule my thoughts for so long. I decided to do a portrait series of body parts because that’s what they are: parts. They don’t make a person who they are, but can certainly effect them emotionally. Breasts are both revered and ridiculed throughout the world. Personally, I’ve received both negative and positive attention throughout my life. Since they are so powerful, to have such effect, they my breasts were the start of my body parts series.Editing
Normally I spend a lot of time editing, but I wanted to keep this simple. I used my favorite editing app Aviary and converted it to black and white. I wanted to keep color out of it to keep the focus solely on the the body part itself, but kept every skin variation or “flaw”.In my camera bag
My real camera is a Nikon D3200 with a 55mm lens. I’m still learning so much. I just got a tripod and remote trigger, but my wish list is long! Next things to get is a 300mm lens and a Rotolight with Halo.Feedback
Capturing body parts is similar to portrait work except less editing. So it is key to look at everything in prep: lighting, composition and lines. You want to shoot in the Raw and capture every detail. I say less editing because it can often take away the things that make our body parts unique, our so called flaws are part of what makes us beautiful and tells our story.
