I returned home to Nevada after living in England for a year and a half. I’m originally from Washington state which is very green and beautiful. Nevada was brown, bare, and mountains were everywhere. England is green with rolling hills.. but no mountains. I came home to to Nevada and went hiking one evening like I had done so many times before. Driving home from the canyon I pulled over to admire the sunset before me. It had been so long since I had seen a sunset like this with large mountains and canyons behind me. I realized then that Nevada was just as beautiful as Washington was.

Location
I took this photo at the entrance to the Ruby Mountains in Lamoille, Nevada. I am so incredibly lucky to call this spot home!Time
This was around 8:30-9pm as I was just coming down the mountain from an evening hike in the canyon.Lighting
Nothing in particular. Just the fact that you can see a pending thunderstorm and as the sun is setting! It was breathtaking.Equipment
To be honest, I did not use any fancy equipment! This was taken with an iPhone 6S!Inspiration
I had just returned to the states from living abroad in England. I used to think Nevada was ugly, brown and dusty. This was taken my second day home and as I was coming down the mountain and saw a pending thunderstorm in the distance I was in awe at the color the sunset brought mixed with the giant clouds. I had to get out of the car and snap this picture before anything changed as a reminder that everywhere, even Nevada, is beautiful in its own way.Editing
I did. I used VSCO to edit the photo. I brought up the contrast and saturation a bit as well as sharpened the photo. In my camera bag
I normally have just my camera as well as a duster for my lens and a spray that will clear up the lens as it tends to get dirty pretty easy!Feedback
Don’t be afraid to pull over and get the best shot. People will see you but who cares! If you aren’t satisfied then do it again. Something so beautiful that caused you to stop and pull off the road to capture it... let’s just say you should be happy with your shot!!
