Location
Taken at Chiles Peach Orchard, in Crozet, Virginia. Apple picking is sort of a thing around here. Central Virginia is famous for it's wineries, but also for it's cider, and most of all apples!Time
This was toward the end of November, very late in the afternoon.. The orchard, which is normally lush with peaches, and apples, was completely barren of leaves and fruit. The mom had brought some apples along for her kids, and her littlest one was enjoying a bite. As great as this looked in color, because of the red apples and stark background, my photographic roots are based in black and white film photography, and when I played with the black and white, I immediately loved the highlights in the jagged trees, the gloss on her lips, the texture of her pretty baby skin, and the droplets on the apples.Lighting
It was super dark and grey, but it worked really well with the stark background. There was just enough light to give it dimension.Equipment
Canon 6D, 100 mm L, ambient lightInspiration
To be honest, it was the pop of red color against the little girl's white shirt, and the dramatic background, but then I saw it in B/W and loved it even more.Editing
A blue filter was applied to deepen the blacks. In my camera bag

Sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised at how a place of beauty can inspire you when it's lost it's luster during winter months. It's fun to change things up and see what you can come up with.
