the shot was takin in a forest I hike in to take a lot of my wildlife pictures in the beautiful Okanagon valley in British ColumbiaTime
the shot was takin around 4 pm as I walked back to my truck to see this beauty hawk was resting on a fence pole between the area I park and the forest The funny part of this was that it was a quiet day on my hike, I didn't see any wildlife after a all day hike with all my gear and low and behold I get this shot close to my vehicle. it sure pays to carry a camera at all times as you never know when a shot will appearLighting
it was a cool feb overcast day, so the sky was a big defuser as its nice with no harsh ambient light. We get a lot of overcast days in the winterEquipment
I shoot Nikon my main wildlife camera is the Nikon d500 and the 200-500 lens. This is probably my favourite combo to use, and if im hiking a long ways I will use the 300 mm f4 pf lens with a 1.5 teleconverter on it as it is nice and light and very fast for birds inflightInspiration
I got inspired by the fact I carry 20-30 lbs of camera gear while hike quite a distance some days, and there he was right next to my truck looking so beautiful.Editing
not a lot of post processing, I might do 30 sec on a picture , I spend my time on my camera making sure my settings are right and I have god exposure for the highlights and my histogram is exposed to the rightIn my camera bag
for wildlife I carry ; Nikon d500 /200-500 f5.6 zoom /300mm f4/macro lens/bug spray/sun screen/ lens cover for rain/ camo cover to hide under, both from lens cover/ speed light and magmod magbeam/extra batteries/tripod with wimberey head with a flash arm in case of shadows or direct sunlight for my speedlight/and some other crap like snacks etcFeedback
to be honest wildlife photography has a lot of luck in it. I will sit in a camo cover for hrs waiting for nothing lots of the time. I love it as it great for the mental state with no electronics, stress, just you and the forest your waiting in. I just love the pease and quiet.
