Location
This photo was taken in a studio in Houston, Texas.Time
I remember it was early in the afternoon by the time we switched to a black background, it was in the winter so it was a bit cold, but that didn't stop Jadyn.Lighting
Yes, to get that effect and no light spilled on the backdrop i used a 600ws strobe overhead with a soft box not too big and a grid to keep the light from spilling.Equipment
The camera was my 5DmkIII, ISO 100, F11 at 80mm (with a 70-200mm 2.8 IS) The strobe was around 1/4 of the power.Inspiration
I remember i wanted to see some shapes, unique perspectives, contrast and bright lights and shadows together, I also wanted the roundness of her tu tu to show, I wanted symmetry and abstraction. She did it flawlessly.Editing
I didn't do much to this image, it was almost perfect how it came out of the camera, I darkened some shadows, increased the contrast and reduced some light spilling on the floor. In my camera bag
It really depends on the type of shooting i have, I'm normally mobile so I try to stay light, but I have 2 bodies (Canon 5DmkIII and 6D), Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS, 24-70 F2.8, 24-105 F4 IS, 50mm F1.4, 85mm F1.8, 3 or 4 speedlights, cards, batteries and some other things.Feedback
Yes, play with light and shadow, pay attention to your shadows, control your light with grids, flags or anything to shape it. Try different settings in your camera and strobes, be patient with your models and also with yourself, but most importantly, go shoot something, as much as you can.
