Behind The Lens

Location

This photo made on Lofoten Islands, near Sorvagen at E10 road. I traveled to Lofoten islands twice - this was during my first trip, in early Oct 2017.

Time

it was early afternoon, I guess.

Lighting

The weather was not very stable, but sun appeared from time to time. On this photo, there is sunlight thru clouds on the far shore; while I was in the shadow.

Equipment

I use Nikon D750 with a standard Nikkor 24-120/f4 lens - this is my standard travel kit. I unlikely used a tripod for this shot - I think that for landscape shooting with good light when no need to set a long exposure - a tripod is not necessary.

Inspiration

The central point of this photo is the piece of wood, a snag, wrapped with water plants; it looks like some creature from fairytales; like a Viking's totem. This snag inspired me to take this photo.

Editing

I do light post-processing in Adobe Lightroom to make photos look better, make accents on colors and lights.

In my camera bag

Nothing outstanding - the D750 camera with Nikkor 24-120/f4 lens, UV and circular-polarized filters, spare batteries, lens pens... Rubber bulb, to clean the camera inside. Almost always I have wide-angle Tokina 16-28/F2.8, and just sometimes telelens 80-400. If I'm going to shoot in the dark - then a tripod and remote controller. And, my laptop to look at pictures and select ones I want to keep and work with them later.

Feedback

Keep your eyes open, and turn your head frequently. And - travel, as much as you can. Norway, in particular, has lots of stunning landscapes - but sometimes places not far from your house can also give you great pictures.
