I took this photo in the Unesco World Heritage site of Kinderdijk, in NetherlandsTime
I use to wake up early and go to shoot. I love the feeling of not being sure what the light will be after "darkness". This image was taken about 50 minutes before sunrise.Lighting
The warm lights in the background are coming from the village close to the entrance of Kinderdijk windmills area, while in the right side of the photo comes from the very first lights of the day.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a Sigma 10-20mm f4, a 3 steps graduated nd filter and a tripod.Inspiration
As it usually happen in many of this ultrapopular places, you just want to have a chance to go there and thake some shots for your portfolio. I could say inspiration came right from the soft beautiful lights and reflections.Editing
As I usually do, I did some fast adjustments in Lightroom, before sending the image to Photoshop. Once there, as the light was very soft and I used a GND filter to make the light similar in both parts of the frame, I didn't need to make a lot of post-processing work apart of some regarding colour, sharpness or tones.In my camera bag
These days, I usually take with me a Canon 6D, the Canon 16-35mm f4 IS L, a 70-200mm f4 IS L, and a Samyang 14mm f2.8 or Canon 50mm 1.4 depending on what kind of shooting I am going for. The tripod and a filter kit (8 stops and 3 stops GND) are always coming with me unless I am only shotting in the night.Feedback
In my opinion, such a situation as usually can be found in Kinderdijk is a great chance to go for is to search for reflections and deepth of field as there are so many beautiful windmills that you can capture all along your frame. A GND filter is a great option before/after sunrise or sunset, as it will help to equalize lights up and down and create an attractive atmospthere while leading the eye to the center of the image, where those beautiful windmills are.
