Wow what a spectacular shot, was it a lucky shot or did you have to patiently wait for it? Well done.

Great shot of these two. Do you happen to know which resident whale/pod this orca is from?

I’ve spent quite a few years studying and photographing orcas in the Pacific Northwest, learning behaviors and getting to know the various pods and animals. The Northern Resident Orca pods are fish eaters, with salmon being their food of choice. Because orcas food share among the family unit, they will often carry their catch in their mouth, which make them targets for the dolphins looking for a free meal. It’s not uncommon to see the dolphins chasing after the Northern Residents, while the Residents do their best to avoid the dolphins. It’s amazing to watch this dynamic play out, especially knowing that the orcas could fight off the dolphins if they wanted to do so.Editing
I typically use a combination of Lightroom, Photoshop, and MacPhun’s suite of software in my workflow. In my camera bag
My go to equipment are my Nikon D4 with the Nikon D500 as my backup camera. My primary go to lens is my Sigma 50-500mm lens which is my workhorse lens, as well as the Sigma 150-600mm Sport and a Nikon 16-80mm and 28-300 lens for landscape work.Feedback
I tend to shoot in manual mode so I can control shutter speed and aperture, and use the auto ISO setting to be able to be able to quickly adjust from bright, high-contrast to dark, low light conditions.
