Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at a family members house durning a birthday party. I saw this squirrel laying down on the fence and found it interesting.Time
I live in Dallas and my family lives in Fort Worth, so I woke up at about 6 am then drove an hour over to Fort Worth. I ended up taking the picture around midday when the sun was at its highest. Normally this isn't optimal for pictures, but since the squirrel was laying on the part of the fence that was in the shade, the high sun didn't bother me.Lighting
The lighting was only from the sun at 11 am. I think this lighting was key because the picture looks natural and not planned.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5500 accompanied with a 70-300mm telephoto lens. No tripod or other equipment used.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this picture because I thought it was funny. Normally we see squirrels running across fences but this squirrel decided they wanted a break. I posted it because back when I was a much worse photographer I thought this was a good and funny picture.Editing
I did not do any post-processing for this image. If I would in the future, I would add contrast, darken the background, and try to highlight the squirrel. In my camera bag
I typically carry one body and three lenses, and a GoPro for video. I carry my Nikon D5500 body, which typically has the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 prime lens on it (the lens is for wide-angle pictures). But for this picture and many other wildlife pictures, I will put on the Tamron 70-300mm f3.5-5.6 lens. I also have a third lens for macro photography, which I use most typically for close up pictures of flowers and water droplets, which is 90mm f2.8 prime. I also carry a GoPro Hero 7, Black, which I use for filming my adventures or recording time-lapses or sunrises/sunsetsFeedback
If you want to capture wildlife photography you have to be patient. Mother nature is a beast of a thing and you never know when your picture will align. But, you cannot get the perfect picture without waiting and staying ready.
