I dont have a studio, I just set it up in my living room.Time
This was taken at night time so I could have have complete darkness in my living roomLighting
Many people use a flash or strobe light to light up the smoke, and also a card that you could attach to the side of the light source, that would stop any light from reaching the background. The only thing that needs to be lit up is the smoke.Equipment
I used a Nikon D500 with a 35mm F/1.8. The camera was set on a mini tripod and for the lighting I used a flash light under the smoke to light it up. I also used a black cloth to use as a background. The smoke is from an Incense stick, it creates a beautiful smoke pattern.Inspiration
After looking at other smoke photography examples, I wanted to try it out myself, and I loved it! Every photo you take would be unique as the smoke creates a different patternEditing
Yes, I used Adobe Photoshop to post process this image, the main work was to add colour to the smoke, darken up the black back ground and overall just clean the image.In my camera bag
I do keep everything on me when Im out for photography, so I have my 35mm, 105mm macro and 70-300 Zoom. - A nikon SB-5000 flash. -A tripodFeedback
Im not a professional, neither did I have professional setup, the Incense stick was places in a cup, with a torch lighting up the smoke. All Il say is, work with what you have and you can get better results than me.
