Location
This photo was taken at the Alexander College (Cyprus) studios. It was part of a project entitled "identity".Time
It was a quiet afternoon when the studio was completely empty.Lighting
One key light was used with a large softbox. A reflector on the other side filled in the shadows created. A stobe with a red gel under the table was bounced at the black background to create the red effect.Equipment
Nikon D300 with Nikon 35-80mm f/4 lens.Inspiration
In this project, which also included portrait shots, I tried to show the identity of my son as a avid skater. I can't keep up with having to buy him new training shoes every 2 months. With this particular image featuring his board and worn-out shoes I was attempting to relay his passion, dedication and love for his chosen sport.Editing
Post processing was minimal. Mainly cropping and colour/contrast adjustments. In my camera bag
Nowadays I shoot with a Nikon D800 and my range of Tamron lenses (15-30mm, 24-70mm and 70-200mm). My camera bag also contains, a couple of Yongnuo speedlights, a set of ND filters, a Rollei cable release and my trusty Zomei carbon tripod.Feedback
Experiment, experiment, experiment. When you are in a studio, you may start with an initial idea but as you are working it evolves and changed. An open mind is a creative mind. Allow yourself to be carried towards new and different directions even if they are unrelated to your original vision. At all times however be mindful of the mood and message you are trying to convey.
