Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in West-Flanders at a farm where a couple of German shepherds just had a littler of three pups.

Time

The sun was getting really low around 8 in the evening when we arrived at the farm so It was the perfect light for this photo, just enough of the sunrays that seeped through the bush right behind the pup.

Lighting

I guess when you're working with puppies you don't really have a say in where you want your subject to be, they run around so fast the when the moment comes you have to be very fast to capture the right shot. This pup was sitting at the right place in the right time. But I do love shooting in the evening when the light gets that golden glow get's just behind your subject.

Equipment

I adore my 50 mm lens, and because I just started with photography two years ago so my body is still a Nikon D3200 but I hope to get a full frame in a few years to make even better shots.

Inspiration

I was on a road trip with a photogapher friend of mine in order to take shots for a writer her book on puppy behaviour and I got to tag along and take photo's of the pups too and this shot came out perfectly.

Editing

I run my photo's through lightroom first to edit my highlights and bump the warm tones a bit, then it goed through photoshop to edit my curves and remove some of the clutter in the photo (dog toys mostly). The best thing is when you have a photo like this and you don't have to edit it a lot because it already is a good shot straight out of the camera.

In my camera bag

My nikon D3200 and a 50mm lens, and then for moving shots I sometimes switch over to a 70-200 f4.5 lens. beside that I always have a little box of paperclips and a sqeak toy to get their attention.

Feedback

Just have fun and stay one eyelevel with your subject, also make sure you have an assistand to keep the other pups from crawling all over you because they can be quite the handfull when you're shooting and no one is there to keep them from biting in you clothes or discovering if your camera is edible.
