Location
This photo was taken on my local mountain named Niesen. It is located at the gateway to the Bernese Oberland near Lake Thun. With the last train before the winter revision I made my way to the 2362 meter high mountain. Down by the car was still thick fog but up there the weather was gorgeousTime
The photo was taken in the evening during sunset just before 6:00 PM. Shortly after I took this photo, I had to hurry, because the last train of the year left just a few minutes after this shot into theLighting
That evening there were no clouds in the sky and due to the cold of about -18 degrees Celsius the distant visibility was incredibly good.Equipment
I took this photo with a Nikon D800 and the 14-24mm wide angle lens. I also used a Gitzo tripod and a remote shutter release so the wind didn't blur the shot.Inspiration
I have been trying to take a picture of a fog wave for quite some time. So far I had no luck but this evening I had my first but small fog wave. Better than nothing and in a place where there are not so many pictures of a wave.Editing
The photo is a single shot. I have removed a few sensor spots and lightened the dark areas a bit.In my camera bag
Meanwhile I switched to the Nikon Z system and use a Z6 and a Z7 with Nikon lenses between 14-200mm. My system also always includes a remote shutter release and a good tripod.Feedback
A photo like this takes a lot of patience, a lot of planning for the weather and a pinch of luck. If the shots are taken in winter, as here, extremely warm clothes are a must, because it gets dangerously cold in the mountains. The cold must not be underestimated because otherwise it becomes dangerous.
