Well this image is the very start of Yesterdays sever cell chase and it's a dream shot come true. Ever since I tried photographing my first storm 3 years ago I had a dream. That dream was to get a dirt road in a rural area and capture a beautiful storm as it passed over head. Up until now i thought it would stay a dream but yesterday all the element's came together and after twenty or so images it finally happened.
After hours of waiting and waiting a storm system behind Warwick finally paid off and became a supercell like you only see maybe twice in a season. This storm would go on to be an amazing system with photographers and chasers near and wide ending up at Harrisville and Peak Crossing. This image from around the Colleyville area was how a massive day became a memory for a life time.

This image was captured at Colleyville Queensland. Its around 40 minutes from the city of Brisbane in Australia.Time
This was right in the magic hour leading to sunset. Thats why the sun is so low in the image.Lighting
With this image i had to be sure to use an ND8 residual filter. Otherwise the brightness of the sun would have blown out the entire sky.Equipment
This i used my Nikon D750 with Tamron 15-30mm lens and Nisi V5 kit. On the V5 kit i used a polariser and ND8 residual filter. And me gear sat on a manfrotto lens.Inspiration
For years I had a vision of this exact road with lightning and a giant storm at the end of it. For almost 3 years i tried and failed with mixed results. On this day i was in place early and as the two cells collided i started capture images. This being my one in a million moment.Editing
I brushed the sky and raised the clarity and vibrancy a bit. I also brushed the foreground and raised the shadows and vibrancy also. I also use a small bit of dehaze the make the cloud popIn my camera bag
Normally I have my Nikon D750 and Nikon D7100. I have my main go to Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lend and Nikkor 24-85mm f/4.5. My D7100 I have a Sigma 30mm f/1.8 and Tamron 10-20mm f/5 lens aswell as an old Nikkor 15-300mm f/5.6. I also carry a stock remote with cable and a Strike finder 2.Feedback
Get to know your area aswell as weather radars. Being able to plsn a shot days in advance is a real bonus when trying for a very specific shot. Also have your radar active at all times to avoid going into a dangerous situation. If i know I'm going into a storm situation I set my filters and partially set up my settings before heading out and have my gear ready to go on the back seat. But most of all, safety safety safety. If you can hear thunder, you can be struck my lightning. And if you feel you need an umbrella but hear thunfer. Its time to leave.
