Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at a small pro rodeo event in Manila, Utah.

Time

The barrel racing, one of my two favorite rodeo events, took place early evening.

Lighting

Being Labor Day (1st Monday in September) the days in Northeastern Utah were still long enough for natural lighting to be adequate.

Equipment

A Nikon D5100 with a Tamron 150-600mm lens was used.

Inspiration

My wife and I have always enjoyed rodeo on television. We were in Manila, UT, hiking and enjoying Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area, and when we returned tired to our campground, the CG hosts offered us free tickets to the rodeo event just a block down the road. Even tired after a day of hiking up to 10K feet, we could not pass up the opportunity to see rodeo in person! We were not disappointed, what fun, great events and a fun crowd!

Editing

Minor cropping to remove some of the crowd watching and to highlight the horse and rider, great athletes both!

In my camera bag

I carry a Nikon D5100, an assortment of lenses and filters, extra batteries and SD cards, as well as a CANON SX710HS for use when hiking (good camera at a very low weight!)

Feedback

Never turn down a free ticket to the rodeo!
