This beautiful monarch butterfly is a female. She is feeding from the milkweed nectar. Monarchs lay eggs only on milkweed and feed primarily from milkweed.

Some people consider the monarch the most beautiful of all butterflies, and are considered the “king” of the butterflies, hence the name “monarch”. I tend to agree....until I see another butterfly and that one becomes the most beautiful since butterflies are the flowers of the sky.

Monarchs is a Danaus plexippus (subfamily Danainae) in the family Nymphalidae.
