Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Torrechiara near the famous Castle that I photographed several times too, but this is a different spot, less known, near the cemetery, a barren hill where this lonely tree is located

Time

Some time has passed but from the photo exif I saw that they were more or less 4 in the afternoon. In reality with the infrared the ideal is a strong light and clouds, you can also shoot at midday, or rather infrared gives its best with its lights that are not much loved by landscapers

Lighting

There is not much to say about light, here it is only natural light, mediated by the clouds that were many that day

Equipment

I used a nikon d70s converted to infrared with a 720nm filter installed directly on the sensor instead of the IRcut filter, a job a former friend of mine did.

Inspiration

Lara, a photographer friend, often takes absurd positions when she's shoot, and when I saw her in that position it seemed like a good composition, so I didn't waste any time and I took the car and took it.

Editing

Infrared photographs to become more interesting in my opinion need a very massive post production. In this case the first step is the reversal of the red and blue channels, after which we work to make some details more colorful with selective posts on some areas, modifying the color temperature. It's a pretty intense job. For a couple of years I no longer use this technique having broken the converted D70s and sold all the Nikon equipment I had. Currently I only use ML sony

In my camera bag

I currently have a sony A7ii and some lenses that I choose depending on what I want to photograph. For landscapes I have a very good 16-35 F4 zeiss, for portraits I only use fixed lenses, I have a 35, a 50, an 85 and a 135 that I use depending on what I want to achieve, currently I'm trying to optimize the kit. I also have an excellent manfrotto tripod that I often use in landscaping.

Feedback

You always have to have your eyes open and watch what is happening, sometimes there are unrepeatable moments that last a few seconds that you must know how to seize. This is the case. In reality, however, I often program the shots the day before, hoping to find exactly the situation I imagined there.
