Location
This photo was taken in Yosemite National Park. We were looking for places where we could capture El Capitan reflections in water. after checking with the park rangers, we narrowed down on few spots and this one turned out to be a good choice.Time
This was in the early afternoon, the sky was clear with occasional clouds but providing a good backdropLighting
I was trying to get a clear reflection without any disruption in the water. After few mins i got a clear shot and the daylight created a good reflection. the floating stick actually gives away the fact that the lower part is water.Equipment
This was shot on a canon EOS 70D with 18-135 mm lensInspiration
I had been to Yosemite in winter and with snow getting reflections were not possible. I had seen photos of El capitan and its reflections so was definitely interested to click one when there was an opportunity. In this trip the weather was good and i was lucky to get a good shot.Editing
i used basic adjustments in lightroom, but for most of it the photo was already looking good.In my camera bag
I generally carry my Canon EOS 70D and two lenses - 18-135mm and the 55-250mm one. At times i do rent out full frame cameras (like 6D Mark II or the EOS R) and carry the equivalent options. Other things I carry are a tripod, spare battery, additional memory cards (you always need a few more), basic filters, lens cleaner, a notepad and pen.Feedback
Weather plays an important role in getting good reflections and deciding on a place and time is important. When i was new to photography i hardly worried about the time or location, but as time progressed i have realized that without planning, we always run into the risk of messing up our photos.
