Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken at Nambiti Game Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.

Time

It was around 10:00 am and we were starting our walk to interact with cheetahs when this little meerkat hopped up on the table to inspect us. Reared as an orphan it was quite tame allowing me to get the close up shot.

Lighting

This was in full sunlight so no mood lighting. I just wanted to try capture the essence of this busy little creature who rarely paused.

Equipment

I used my Canon 550 and a macro lens.

Inspiration

When you’re in a game reserve you have to rely on long lenses and this little creature enabled me to use my macro for once!

Editing

No post processing other than a little sharpening.

In my camera bag

For wildlife my Canon 300mm lens and a macro for interesting insects or flowers I may encounter.

Feedback

Always focus on the eyes.
