Location
I took the photo on a two day visit to Lake Vyrnwy in North Wales. The lake is a reservoir built in the 1880's to supply water to Liverpool: It is 5miles long and half a mile wide. The picture is taken across the lake and is of a road bridge spanning an inlet. Autumn was well under way which was my reason for being there.Time
26th October 2017 at 11:19 am .. The day had started blustery but settled later to show off the Autumnal colours.Lighting
The light was good, not too bright and the water was placid, giving great reflections. Because there was not too much contrast, it gave the opportunity for a lovely tonal range.Equipment
The shot was taken hand held with an Olympus EM1 mark 2 and an Olympus M,12-100mm f/4 lens.. This is a superb and fairly light camera and has image stabilisation in both the lens and body which synchronise.... taken at f/4 ... FL 100mm ... 1/400 sec .. at ISO 320.Inspiration
My visit was inspired by the Autumn colours and the reflections added that sparkle for this image.Editing
I take photos in RAW and process them in Photoshop to bring out the colour and tone and to sharpen where necessary. In my camera bag
I normally carry the Olympus EM1 mark 2 and one of a range of lenses which I possess. Also I carry spare batteries and cleaning equipment ... occasionally I carry a tripod but with the camera and lens stabilisation I rarely use it.Feedback
It is important to find your location at the right time of day for lighting and ensure that focus is right both in terms of subject and surroundings. Subject in focus and the rest in acceptable focus and certain out of focus areas to concentrate the eye. Thereafter it is a case of taking care during the exposure to get it right. take more than one exposure if you can and if necessary, bracket your exposures to ensure perfection.
