I took this portrait in my home studio in Brisbane Australia.Time
I shot this image in the morning. I prefer to work in the morning when my subjects are fresh.Lighting
I use mostly one light. This was shot with a Jenni HD 600 with a 1.2m octo. I positioned the light over head and slightly in front to bath the subject in soft light. I used a silver reflector under the models face to create a clamshell effect.Equipment
I use Nikon camera as I love the rich colour profile it gives me. This was shot with a D610. With the Jennifer HD 600 strobe and 1.2m Octo softbox.Inspiration
The subject normally dresses in pinup style and is not a regular model. I loved her hair and eyes and wanted to create a dark beauty image for halloween. I styled the model choosing gothic collar and corset. The cross pinned to the collar reinforced the gothic feel.Editing
The subject was naturally pale. I wanted to enhance this look and used a porcelain skin editing technique in photoshop to process the skin tones. I touched up eyes and lips to give crisp and bright feeling to the portrait. In my camera bag
My kit of choice is a Nikon body D610 as I love the colour it captures. My favourite lens is a 24-70mm F 2.8. This is a great portrait lens in the studio and outdoors.Feedback
My tip for creating fine art portraits is to know your subject and let your creativity flow. If you have a clear vision, your subject will be at ease and trust you. You can take and shape the image to take them on a journey. The right lighting is key to capturing a magazine style image like this. I recommend the clamshell setup to achieve this. Best wishes!
