This photo was taken on a road trip from Kongsberg to the Fjords in Norway, with my best friend. We stopped alongside the road to take a break and this amazing little house was just... there. Norway is a fairy tale, a continuous dream from one end to the other, that feels somehow like a familiar mystery, like coming home to a place you've never been before. I absolutely love the landscape which is stunning, and the people now live in my heart. I miss it and hope to get back there soon!Time
This was actually late afternoon, the light was perfect for this photo which only needed enhancement in the form of contrast which makes it as dramatic as it appeared to me!Lighting
The entire scene was larger than life so I popped the contrast to emphasise the drama of the moment.Equipment
I used my very old and simple set up. A Nikon D50 with a Tamron 18-250mm lens and a Quantaray flash. So this is still one of my favorite setups.Inspiration
It's all about that quirky little house! It's suddenly there, obviously abandoned and out of a fairy tale filled with trolls and elves. It's surrounded by a large vibrant green meadow and all those amazing pink flowers. The trees on the collapsing roof just nailed it for me. Trees on the roof, who could imagine! I guess it's common in Norway, but I'd never seen anything like it. This is what happens when nature takes over, and it's incredibly charming.Editing
Actually there wasn't a lot of post-processing. I gave it more contrast in Lightroom and that's about it. I didn't know how to adjust the sky at the time so it's "as is" after contrast. In my camera bag
I usually carry this particular Nikon (D50) which is an in-between camera and the Tamron Lens. In the bag, I also carry a Nikon 50mm lens. It's an unassuming lens that is absolute magic when it comes to portraits. I don't like to carry a lot, so it's more of a backpack type of bag which can also hold the things I usually carry in my purse, along with a charger, extra SD cars, lens cloth, lens wipes, batteries, a handmade stabilizer chain thingy that screws into the bottom of my camera which dangles to the ground where I step on it to stabilize my camera by tension. (cause I never seem to have a tripod when I need it.) and extra filters.Feedback
I think with magical mystical almost fantasy type photos like this. The most important thing aside from getting it in focus, is the time of day, (but that's always important isn't it?) the story you're trying to tell, and contrast which you can adjust in Lightroom or other photography apps. It's always a bit difficult maybe to capture your heart's image though right?
