Behind The Lens

Location

Me and my friend Thomas were on photo tour in Leipzig (Eastern Germany). Actually we looked for beautiful spiral staircases and lost places, but in one of the decayed buildings we became amazed by this pure white and absolutely clean room.

Time

We reached Leipzig at noon and this building was the first we explored at this day. And this was a piece of luck, because the sun shined into the white room.

Lighting

It was about 12 o'clock and the sun shined into this room, this is why I could use 100% natural light. But I need to say it again: It was a piece of luck. We didn't knew this building or this room and we didn't planned the time.

Equipment

This picture was taken in 2011 with my Canon 450D and the Canon kit lens EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, no flash, no filters, no tripod.

Inspiration

We stood in front of this room and after passing the door, this room cried out for being captured. On the floor found this red chair and were thankful for the cool contrast to the pure white. We take a couple of pictures, because of it's minimalism this single chair pic is one of my favorite ones.

Editing

Not really, there was no post-processing necessary. I just corrected the distortion, nothing else.

In my camera bag

My Canon 70D with the Sigma 10-20 mm F4,0-5,6 EX DC HSM and my Canon 50mm F1,8. Some flash cards, filters and often I need my tripod, too.

Feedback

Before I go on a photo tour I spend a lot of time for research in good locations. And this makes it easy for me to find them and save valuable time for taking photos. But even if you plan your tour right down to the last detail, sometime the fortune arrange the best pictures and it is your job to capture them.
