Location
This photo was taken in the last days of winter at the National Mall in Washington DC just a few minutes from the White House and the Washington Monument, actually behind those cherry trees is the Washington monument but you can't see it because the blizzard.Time
Here in Washington DC we don't get that much snow like NYC or Chicago and when we get blizzard we get crazy here most of everything closed, so that day I check weather channel to make sure if we gonna have a blizzard and yes 90% of snow. I was happy that gonna be my first photo walk with a lot of snow. I went work crossing my fingers and waiting for my boss to tell me that we are leaving early than the usually, and lucky I just work 3hrs. Well I went to national mall I had enough time to get at least 2 or 3 nice shoots I walked around between 5 and 6 hrs until I saw this cherry trees around 3:00 and 4:00 pm. it was getting dark and my lens was getting wet so I had to clean very often.Lighting
In winter time specially when it is snowing it is hard finding the best light because everything is gray there is no enough light so what I did it was trying and playing we the white balance until I find the one it convinced me and wait for something to appear in the photo, a few people was walking under those trees but you can't see them so I wait to see if someone come out those trees lucky me a guy with a dog come, I got a couple shoots with and with out the guy and together.Equipment
I used canon 2ti Tamron 18mm-270mm I didn't use tripod, no flash. I used a small trash bag to protect my camera.Inspiration
What inspired me to take this photo? My intensions were that I want to get some iconic monuments in Washington DC like, Thomas Jefferson, Washington monument, Abraham Lincoln, etc, so one day I saw a bunch of photos from a photographer that I don't remember his name he has a lot photos like lonely trees or a tree with a minimal person, I just like it and I a had that in mind that one day I will try something like that and found this in downtown DC.Editing
This is a single shot and yes I did some post processing in light room I did just the basic exposure, shadow, white balance and a little sharping, and I converted to black and white. In my camera bag
I made an upgrade I got Canon T6i Tamron 18mm-270mm Canon 50mm 1.8 Extra battery and memory card and a remote control no tripod most of the times.Feedback
When I got this photo it was one of first photo walk I did my self in blizzard any advice can I give are first protect your camera with special bag or a trash bag like I did, take extra battery because the power of a battery dies faster in cold days, be patient and also if you are not shooting put the cap on it because the lens get foggy and wet.
